Product description
‘Red Sun’ is a bold twist on the classic Sunflower, offering deep burgundy-red blooms that bring drama and warmth to summer borders. Growing up to 1.5 metres tall, these striking plants make a stunning backdrop in beds or a standout feature in wildlife-friendly gardens. Their rich colour and large flower heads are perfect for cutting and loved by bees and birds alike.
Sow seeds indoors from March to April or directly outdoors from April to May once the soil has warmed. Choose a sunny, well-drained spot and sow thinly, covering lightly with soil. If starting indoors, use pots or trays with compost and keep at around 15–20°C. Harden off seedlings before planting out, spacing them 30cm apart to allow for strong growth and airflow. Flowers come into bloom July to September.
Water regularly during dry spells, especially while the plants are young and establishing. Once mature, they’re fairly drought-tolerant, but consistent moisture will help produce taller stems and richer blooms. Add a stake for support of growing these Sunflowers in exposed areas. Sunflower ’Red Sun’ is easy to grow and guaranteed to add a splash of colour and character to your garden.
