Give your seeds the best start

Product description

Tomato 'Sahel' F1 is a high-performing hybrid plum tomato, bred for heavy yields of classic, oval-shaped fruits. It grows with a vigorous but manageable bush (determinate) habit, making it a productive and easy-to-grow choice for any vegetable garden. The fruits have a dense, flavourful flesh with few seeds, making them the perfect ingredient for rich sauces, roasting, and preserving.

To get an early start, sow 'Sahel' F1 seeds in small pots of compost under cover. Place them in a warm environment at around 20-22C to speed up germination. Once seedlings have their first set of true leaves, transfer them to larger individual pots and grow them on in a bright, protected spot. Before planting outside, gradually harden off the young plants to acclimatise them to outdoor conditions after all risk of hard frost has passed.

Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot with fertile soil, spacing them 45-60cm apart. While it doesn't need training like a tall vine, its heavy crop will benefit from support from a stout cane or cage to keep the fruit off the soil. Water well and feed regularly with a high-potash liquid fertiliser once flowers appear. It is important not to remove the side shoots, as this is a bush variety and these shoots will produce your crop.
