Product description

Zinnia 'Purple Prince' is a magnificent half-hardy annual, grown for its truly spectacular and regal blooms. This tall, upright plant produces enormous, fully double, dahlia-like flowers in a stunning and intense shade of rich magenta-purple. A real showstopper in any sunny border, it is also a first-class cut flower with a long vase life and is highly attractive to butterflies and other pollinators.

To raise healthy plants, sow 'Purple Prince' seeds in trays of good quality seed compost under cover. Maintain a warm temperature of around 20-22°C to ensure good and swift germination. Once the seedlings have their first set of true leaves, carefully transplant them into individual pots to grow on in bright, frost-free conditions. It is crucial to gradually acclimatise the young plants to outdoor conditions before planting them out.

Plant out into a warm, sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil, only after all danger of frost has passed, spacing plants about 30cm apart. When young plants reach about 20cm in height, pinch out the main growing tip to encourage a bushier plant that will produce more flowers. Water the base of the plants during dry spells and deadhead faded blooms regularly to promote a continuous and impressive floral display throughout the growing season.
