Product description

A 'Cornfield Mix' is a vibrant collection of hardy annual wildflowers, designed to recreate the beautiful, traditional displays once common in the countryside. It produces a spectacular and informal splash of colour, featuring iconic flowers like the scarlet Poppy, blue Cornflower, and yellow Corn Marigold. This mix is not only visually stunning but also provides an incredibly rich source of nectar and pollen, making it a haven for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

For best results, these seeds should be sown directly where they are to flower into a prepared seedbed that has been cleared of all weeds and raked to a fine, crumbly texture. Scatter the seeds thinly and evenly across the surface of the soil. Rake the area very lightly so the seeds are barely covered, and then gently firm the soil by walking on it. Water the ground with a fine spray if the conditions are dry to help with germination.

Choose an open, sunny position with poor to average, well-drained soil; avoid using rich, fertile soil or adding fertiliser, as this will result in leafy growth at the expense of flowers. No support or pruning is needed for these wildflowers. Keep the area moist until the seedlings are established. At the end of the display, allow the plants to fully die back and set seed naturally, which can then be shaken onto the ground to provide new plants.
