Product description

Tulip Paul Scherer is widely considered one of the darkest, most dramatic Triumph tulips ever bred, featuring a deep, midnight-purple hue that borders on true black. Its classic, strong-stemmed shape perfectly highlights its gothic colouring, providing immense contrast when paired with lighter spring flowers.

Bury the bulbs deeply in well-draining loam to protect them through the cold, wet months of winter. Beyond basic deadheading, the most important aspect of its care is its placement; it must be planted against a light-coloured background or mixed with white blooms, otherwise its dark silhouette will entirely disappear.

These bulbs are supplied at a size of 11-12.

Instructions

Top Tip

A tip for Tulip Paul Scherer is to rigorously avoid planting it near dark brick walls or shaded corners. Its near-black, midnight-purple hue acts as a visual void and will completely disappear without a light background behind it.

How to Water

When it comes to watering Tulip Paul Scherer, give the soil a single deep soak immediately after planting to establish the roots. After this initial drink, it requires no further irrigation unless the active spring growing season is unusually dry.

How to Plant

To properly plant Tulip Paul Scherer, wait until November and dig a hole roughly 15 cm deep in well-draining loam. Place the bulb firmly at the bottom with its pointed tip facing the sky before covering it back up.
