Product description

Tomato 'Tumbling Tom Red' is a hugely popular and prolific trailing tomato, famous for its cascading growth habit and massive crops. This compact bush variety is the definitive choice for hanging baskets and patio containers, where its stems spill gracefully over the sides. It produces a huge profusion of sweet and juicy, bite-sized red cherry tomatoes that are both delicious and highly ornamental throughout their long fruiting season.

Sow 'Tumbling Tom Red' seeds in pots of compost under cover, keeping them in a warm location at around 20-22C to ensure a good start. After the seedlings have their first true leaves, move them into individual pots and continue to grow them in a bright, frost-free place. Before their final planting into outdoor containers, it is important to gradually acclimatise the young plants to external conditions after all risk of hard frost has passed.

Plant into a final container, such as a large hanging basket, using a high-quality potting compost and place it in a sunny, sheltered position. A consistent schedule of watering and feeding with a liquid tomato fertiliser is essential to support the heavy crop, as containers can dry out quickly. No staking, training, or pruning of side shoots is needed; simply let the plant grow and tumble naturally over the sides.
