Product description
Tomato 'Gigantomo' is an F1 hybrid beefsteak variety, famously bred to be one of the world's largest, capable of producing truly gigantic fruits. This productive cordon variety grows as a tall vine, yielding enormous, deep red, fleshy tomatoes with a superb flavour that is perfect for slicing. It is an excellent choice for a greenhouse or very warm, sheltered spot, promising a harvest that is guaranteed to impress any vegetable grower.
Sow 'Gigantomo' seeds in pots or trays of compost under cover, keeping them in a warm place at around 20-22C for reliable germination. When the seedlings have developed their first true leaves, carefully prick them out into individual pots and grow them on in bright, frost-free conditions. Gradually acclimatise the young plants to outdoor conditions before moving them to their final growing position after all risk of hard frost has passed.
Choose a spot in full sun with rich, fertile, and well-draining soil. As a massive-fruiting cordon type, it is absolutely essential to provide an exceptionally sturdy support system, such as thick stakes. Space plants about 60cm apart. Water consistently and feed regularly with a high-potash fertiliser once the first fruits begin to form. To direct energy into fruiting, regularly pinch out side shoots, and be prepared to support individual heavy trusses to prevent them from snapping.
