Product description

This popular Sweet Corn 'Earliking' F1 variety is a reliable choice for any vegetable patch, valued for its early harvest of delicious, tender cobs. As an F1 hybrid, it is known for its vigour and uniformity, producing tall, stately stalks that add structure to the garden. It is an excellent variety for getting one of the first sweet corn harvests of the season, yielding cobs with a wonderfully sweet flavour perfect for eating fresh.

Sow Sweet Corn 'Earliking' seeds individually in pots under cover in a warm place, at a temperature of around 20-22C, to encourage good germination. Once the seedlings are established, grow them on in bright conditions. Gradually acclimatise the young plants to outdoor conditions before moving them to their final growing position, but only after all risk of hard frost has passed. Once planted, the strong stalks will grow tall and begin to produce cobs.

Choose a sheltered spot in full sun with rich, fertile, and well-draining soil. To ensure good pollination by wind, it is essential to plant sweet corn in a block or grid formation, not in a single long row. Space the plants about 45cm apart in each direction. Water regularly and deeply throughout the growing period, especially during dry spells as the cobs begin to swell, to ensure a successful crop.
