Product description
Hazy, finely divided leaves are the perfect backdrop for the interesting summer flowers these Delft Blue Nigella seeds produce. Blooming from June to August, the white petals are splashed with blue, reminiscent of the popular Dutch Delft Blue pottery, hence the name. The centre of each delicate flower boasts a prominent deep purple stamen that is irresistible to pollinators, enticing bees and butterflies into the garden all summer long.
Choose a sheltered spot in full sun in moist but well-draining soil and sow Nigella seeds directly in the flowering site from March to May, raking over them to lightly cover with soil. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out, leaving 20cm between plants and water regularly until they are well established. Spent flowers can be left in situ for their attractive seed heads. Alternatively, remove faded blooms to prevent self-seeding.
