Product description

The Zinnia 'Oklahoma Mixed' series is a highly productive and reliable half-hardy annual, celebrated by flower growers for its incredible number of blooms. This bushy, upright plant produces a profusion of smaller, long-lasting, pom-pom-like flowers in a vibrant mix of colours, including pink, scarlet, yellow, and white. It is a superb "cut-and-come-again" variety, perfect for providing a continuous supply of flowers for arrangements, and is also adored by butterflies.

To get a head start, sow 'Oklahoma Mixed' seeds in trays of moist compost under cover. Keep them in a warm environment of around 20-22°C for a swift and successful germination. Once the seedlings have their first pair of true leaves, carefully transplant them into individual pots or modules to grow on in a bright spot. Before planting them into the garden, it is vital to gradually harden off the young plants by acclimatising them to outdoor conditions after all risk of hard frost has passed.

Choose a planting site in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil, and space plants about 30cm apart. When the young plants are around 20-30cm tall, pinch out the central growing tip to encourage a bushier habit with more flowering stems. Water at the base of the plant during dry spells, avoiding the foliage. To ensure a non-stop supply of flowers, you must cut or deadhead the blooms regularly; the more you cut, the more the plant will produce.
