Product description

Zinnia 'Envy' is a spectacular and highly unusual half-hardy annual, prized by gardeners and florists for its extraordinary flower colour. This upright, bushy plant produces a profusion of large, semi-double, dahlia-like blooms in a stunning shade of chartreuse-green. 'Envy' is an outstanding and long-lasting cut flower that adds a unique touch to arrangements, and its blooms are also a favourite of butterflies and other pollinating insects.

Sow Zinnia 'Envy' seeds in pots or trays of compost under cover, keeping them in a warm place at around 20-22°C for reliable germination. When the seedlings have their first pair of true leaves and are large enough to handle, carefully prick them out into individual pots to grow on in bright conditions. It is essential to gradually acclimatise the young plants to outdoor conditions before planting them into their final position, only after all risk of hard frost has passed.

Select a site in full sun with rich, fertile, and well-draining soil. Space the plants about 30cm apart to allow for good air circulation. To encourage a bushier plant with more flowers, it is beneficial to pinch out the central growing tip when the young plants are about 20cm tall. Water at the base of the plants regularly during dry spells. For a continuous supply of blooms, it is vital to deadhead the spent flowers frequently.
