Product description

The 'Field & Hedge-row Mix' is a thoughtfully curated blend of native perennial and annual wildflowers, designed to establish a beautiful, long-lasting meadow area. This mix creates a changing tapestry of colours, shapes, and textures as different species flower in succession throughout the growing season. More than just a pretty display, it provides a vital and diverse habitat, offering a rich source of food and shelter for a wide range of pollinators, birds, and other beneficial wildlife.

For a successful meadow, these seeds must be sown directly onto the ground where they are to grow. The most critical step is preparation: clear the chosen area of all existing plants and weeds, and rake the soil to a fine, crumbly texture. To ensure an even sowing, mix the wildflower seeds with a carrier like dry sand before broadcasting them over the surface. Firm the ground by treading it lightly to ensure good seed-to-soil contact, which is vital for germination.

Choose a site in full sun with soil that is not overly fertile; rich soil will only encourage vigorous grasses that can outcompete the wildflowers. No feeding or support is required for these plants. Water only if there is a prolonged dry spell immediately after sowing. Once established, allow the area to grow naturally. After the main flowering period, let the plants set seed before cutting everything down and, crucially, removing all the cuttings to help keep the soil fertility low.
