• Characteristics: One of the most commonly grown varieties of Aubergine, producing medium sized, glossy, deep purple fruits. Grows up to 100cm in height.
• Sow: Sow seeds from January to April. Plant the seeds at least 2cm apart in a seed tray or container, in a polytunnel, greenhouse or indoors.
• Plant: Once the seeds have developed at least two full leaves, the plants can be moved to grow bags, large containers, or a sheltered spot outside. Plant in a position will full sun, in a well-drained, fertile soil.
• Harvest: Harvest from July to October. Aubergines are generally preferred when tender and smaller in size. The fruit should be dark purple, shiny and spongy-firm to the touch. Harvesting the aubergines when they become edible, encourages the plant to produce more fruits.

Long Purple is one of the most grown varieties of Aubergine, known for producing a high yield of nutritious fruits. The plant is dense and bushy with mid-green foliage, thick stems and small, star-shaped, purple flowers. The early-mid season variety bears medium-sized, glossy, dark purple fruits with prickly, dark green calyx.
