Product description

Alocasia Jacklyn is an extraordinary houseplant that has been gaining popularity for its striking appearance and unique textures. Botanically known as Alocasia tandurusa, it is sometimes referred to as Alocasia Sulawesi. Its deeply lobed, arrow-shaped leaves display multiple shades of green, creating a visually rich and dynamic effect. Jacklyn’s beauty is equally captivating from the side, thanks to its creamy-green petioles streaked with purple. When young, it fits perfectly on desks or tabletops, adding a tropical flair. However, as it matures, it transforms into a majestic floor plant.

Caring for Alocasia Jacklyn requires an understanding of its tropical nature. It thrives in bright, direct sunlight, needing at least 8 hours per day in proximity to a window—ideally no farther than one meter away. For homes with lower natural light, grow lights can supplement its needs, especially in winter when UV levels drop. Maintaining high humidity is essential, making daily misting and periodic foliage wiping necessary for optimal health. Watering should be done when the top 2-3 cm of soil dries out, ensuring steady hydration without excess moisture buildup.

This evergreen Alocasia remains lush year-round when kept in warm and bright conditions. Fertilizing once a month from spring to autumn provides the nutrients needed for vibrant growth, while feeding should be paused in winter. Whether displayed as a tabletop centerpiece or as a statement floor plant, Alocasia Jacklyn remains a rare botanical treasure, delivering lush greenery with minimal effort.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Top Tip

To keep your Alocasia healthy, place it in a humid environment or use a humidifier to replicate its tropical origins. Clean the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and enhance its striking appearance. Rotate the pot every few weeks to ensure even growth, as the plant will lean towards the light. Proper care will reward you with lush, dramatic foliage year-round.

How to Water

Water Alocasia regularly to maintain consistently moist soil, but avoid letting it become waterlogged, as this can lead to root rot. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings to prevent overwatering. During the growing season, it may require more frequent watering, while in winter, reduce the frequency to match its slower growth rate. Use lukewarm, filtered water to mimic the plant’s natural environment.

How to Plant

To plant Alocasia, select a pot with adequate drainage and fill it with a well-draining, nutrient-rich potting mix. Position the plant so the root ball sits level with the surface of the soil, ensuring the crown is not buried. Loosen the roots gently before planting, then backfill with soil and firm it lightly. Water thoroughly to settle the soil, and place the pot in a spot with bright, indirect light, as Alocasia thrives in warm, humid conditions.
