Top Tip
Mist the leaves of your Areca palm regularly or use a humidifier to maintain the high humidity it needs to thrive. Avoid sudden temperature changes and draughts, as these can stress the plant and cause browning leaves. Trim any yellowing or damaged fronds to keep the plant looking its best and encourage healthy new growth. With proper care, your Areca palm will create a lush, tropical atmosphere in your home.
How to Water
Water Areca palms regularly, allowing the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. During the growing season, the plant may require weekly watering, but reduce this frequency in winter when growth slows. Ensure the pot has proper drainage to avoid waterlogging, as Areca palms are sensitive to root rot. Use filtered or rainwater if possible, as these plants prefer low mineral content in their water.
How to Plant
To plant Areca, use a pot with excellent drainage and fill it with a well-draining, peat-based potting mix or a blend designed for palms. Carefully remove the plant from its original container, loosening the roots gently if needed. Position the root ball so it sits level with the soil surface and backfill around it, pressing lightly to secure. Water thoroughly to settle the soil, and place the plant in a bright spot with indirect sunlight, avoiding direct exposure to prevent leaf scorch.
