Looking for a tough bushy plant with excellent tolerance and that will spill colours throughout the year? Well, look no further, this Japanese Spindle is the just the right plant. Euonymus Japonicus, as the name suggests, is native to Japan and East China. Ovatus Aureus is an extremely beautiful variety that makes a great stand-alone feature plant. It is a hardy and bushy evergreen shrub that adds year-round interest for any location in a garden.

Japanese Spindle occasionally produces small greenish flowers in summer, once it matures. This plant brings one of the fascinating foliage that is highly decorative and ornamental. Its oval leaves emerge as golden-yellow and develop a dark green centre as they age. The centre of the leaves is edged with bright yellow colour. Pink fruits are followed by the flowers but are rare. This dazzling foliage is perfect for brightening up any dull corners of your garden.

Ovatus Aureus Spindle looks best when allowed to thrive in full sun and does equally well in shade. It is highly tolerant of exposed windy locations and coastal regions. Plant it any soil that is moist and well drained. Growing this Spindle Tree is easy and requires low maintenance.

Japanese Spindle will reach a height of 1.5 metres. Prune it twice a year, once in May and again in September, to encourage new and more variegated growth. Simply trim the main shoots as required to keep the plant bushy and compact.

Ovatus Aureus is ideal for low hedging and screening. Use it in mixed borders, along pathways or as a ground cover. This Japanese native evergreen shrub suits coastal gardens and cottage gardens.
