Product description

As the name would suggest, Turnip Purple Top Milan is white on the bottom, turning into a vivid red-purple hue on the top two thirds. This variety is very fast to ripen and can be started beneath protection for an early season crop.

These organic Turnip seeds grow into reliable root vegetables boasting a terrific texture and a mild, sweet flavour. Turnips are low in calories but packed with nutrients, including plenty of dietary fibre, calcium, antioxidants and vitamins K and A. They can be roasted, steamed, baked, or boiled for a tasty side dish, or added to soups and stews for extra goodness and flavour.

Grow Turnips in full sun in slightly alkaline, moist but well-draining soil. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist and harvest when the roots are golf-ball sized for Baby Turnips, or tennis ball sized for cooking.

Sow Turnip seeds indoors from March to April or outside from May to June. Plant out from May, when the risk of frost has passed, allowing 35cm between rows. Harvest from June to September.
