Never feed Pitcher Plants dead insects or scraps of food - their traps only respond to live prey. Feeding them dead material can cause the traps to rot and weaken the plant, so let them catch their own meals naturally.
How to Water
Keep the soil consistently damp by standing the pot in a shallow tray of rainwater or distilled water, allowing the Pitcher Plant to absorb moisture from below. Avoid tap water, as the minerals can damage the roots and pitchers, and never let the soil dry out completely.
How to Plant
To plant Sarracenia plants, use a pot with good drainage filled with a soil mix of sphagnum moss and sand or perlite to mimic its natural boggy habitat. Avoid using fertilised or nutrient-rich soil, as these plants thrive in nutrient-poor environments. Place the pot in a sunny location, as they require at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily to thrive. When planting, ensure the rhizome is just above the soil surface, and water thoroughly to settle the soil around the roots.
