Pink buds gradually open into blue flowers on Pulmonaria Silver Bouquet, creating a changing mix of colour as the spring display develops. Long, slender leaves heavily marked with silver create an attractive backdrop, with the foliage providing just as much interest as the flowers themselves. Also known as Lungwort, this compact perennial has plenty of presence despite its modest size and works beautifully around the front of borders, beneath shrubs, or in containers.
Shady corners are where Silver Bouquet really comes into its own, with full shade tolerated as well as partial or dappled shade conditions. The semi-evergreen foliage helps brighten darker planting with its silvery markings, while fertile soil that holds some moisture without becoming waterlogged will keep the plant performing well. Early flowers provide a valuable source of food for bees and other pollinating insects, making it a useful addition to a wildlife-friendly garden.

Top Tip
Once the spring flowers have finished, cut the old flower stems and tired foliage right back to the base. Pulmonaria responds by producing a fresh flush of leaves, which can look considerably better through summer than leaving the older foliage in place.
How to Water
Keep Lungwort consistently watered while it establishes, particularly through warm or dry periods. Once settled, water whenever the soil begins to dry, taking care to maintain moisture around the roots without allowing the ground to become waterlogged.
How to Plant
Choose a partially shaded spot where the soil is fertile and holds moisture without becoming waterlogged. Loosen the ground well before planting, settle Pulmonaria at the same depth as it was growing in its pot, then firm the soil around the roots and water thoroughly.
