Product description

Penstemon 'Pensham Czar' is a striking perennial from the Pensham Series, known for its upright habit and vivid purple bell-shaped flowers with contrasting white throats. Blooming from midsummer into autumn, this plant adds vibrant colour to borders and is particularly effective in cottage-style gardens or mixed perennial beds. The plant’s tall stems and bushy growth make it ideal for adding height and texture, while the flowers attract pollinators such as bees, enhancing the biodiversity of your garden.

Growing up to 70 cm tall and spreading between 30 and 50 cm, Penstemon 'Pensham Czar' thrives in well-drained, fertile soil in full sun or partial shade. It is drought-tolerant once established, making it a low-maintenance choice for gardeners looking for long-lasting blooms. It’s also hardy through most UK winters (H4) and requires minimal care aside from occasional deadheading to encourage continuous flowering

Depending on seasonality, deciduous plants may be supplied in their dormant state and without leaves. Plants may also be pruned back, lower than stated heights, to encourage new growth.

Instructions

Top Tip

Cut back penstemon plants after blooming to encourage new growth and prolong flowering.

How to Water

Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid overhead watering to prevent mildew and root rot. Ensure good drainage, as penstemon dislikes sitting in wet soil.

How to Plant

Plant penstemon in well-drained, sandy or loamy soil in a sunny location. Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the root ball, and place the plant level with the surrounding soil. Space plants about 45cm apart to allow for growth.
