Product description

Commonly known as Purple Moor Grass, 'Heidebraut' is a highly elegant, upright ornamental grass that forms a dense, neat tuft of bright green foliage. In late summer, it sends up tall, narrow, airy flower spikes that turn a magnificent, glowing golden-yellow as autumn sets in, providing an excellent transparent screen effect.

This grass performs exceptionally well in moist, acidic to neutral soils and tolerates a range of lighting conditions from full sun to partial shade. Because it is deciduous, the golden autumn foliage will eventually collapse; clear away the dead leaves and stalks to make way for the new growth.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

A tip for Molinia plants; Instead of aggressively shearing this grass down to the ground, wait until the dead foliage loosens and simply use your fingers like a comb to rake out the old, dead blades to make room for the new growth.

How to Water

Molinia loves consistently moist, acidic soil. Water regularly to ensure the ground never dries out completely, especially in full sun. While they handle damp feet well, they are less drought-tolerant than other grasses.

How to Plant

Settle this tufted grass into slightly acidic to neutral dirt, ensuring the crown is perfectly level with the soil surface. Molinia prefers cooler root runs, so a layer of gravel or bark mulch around the base is an excellent way to keep the ground temperature regulated.
