Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Leaving some of the old stems on Penstemon over winter helps protect the crown from cold and excess moisture. Cut it back in spring instead, once new shoots appear, so the plant can use that fresh growth as a guide for healthy, strong regrowth.
How to Water
Water Penstemon regularly during its first few weeks after planting to help it settle and produce strong new growth. Through the growing season, give the plant a light drink whenever the soil begins to dry out, avoiding waterlogging to keep the roots healthy.
How to Plant
Plant Penstemon in well‑drained soil in full sun or partial shade, spacing each plant around 30-40cm apart to allow it to develop its natural shape. Set the plant at the same depth it was growing in its pot, firming the soil gently around the base to help it establish.
