Product description
Parodia leninghausii is covered in harmless-looking, soft golden spines that give it a yellow, fuzzy appearance, earning it the nickname "Lemon Ball." It starts life as a round ball but naturally elongates into a short, thick column as it matures. The stems often have a slanted growth habit, leaning towards the light source, which gives the plant a quirky, tilted look.
Unlike some desert cacti, this species prefers bright, filtered light and can actually scorch in intense midday sun. Use a humus-rich but sandy cactus mix for the best results. Water regularly during the growing season, but ensure drainage is perfect, reducing water significantly in winter.

Rotate your pot by a quarter turn every time you water. Parodia leninghausii naturally lean towards the strongest light source, which can cause them to grow crooked. Regular rotation ensures the plant receives even light exposure on all sides. This helps it maintain a straight, symmetrical shape as it matures.
How to Water
Adopt the 'Soak and Dry' method to mimic the Parodia leninghausii natural environment. Water the soil thoroughly until excess water flows freely from the drainage holes, then discard any saucer water immediately. Allow the soil to dry out completely from top to bottom before watering again. If you are ever unsure, wait a few more days; it is always safer to be too dry than too wet.
How to Plant
Always select a container with sufficient drainage holes to prevent root rot. Use a specialized 'Cactus & Succulent' potting mix or create your own blend by mixing 50% compost with 50% grit. When handling the Parodia leninghausii, protect your hands by using kitchen tongs or a thick folded towel. Plant the cactus at the same depth it was in its previous pot, as burying the green stem can lead to rot. Finish with a top dressing of gravel to keep the plant's base dry.
