Product description

Lennei is a Tulip Magnolia variety with oval, dark green leaves to 25cm. From mid to late-spring, the shrub is decorated with large, goblet-shaped flowers, purple-pink on the outside and almost white inside. These blooms emerge just before the foliage, creating a striking blossom-like effect.

Magnolias are perfect for adding height interest to beds and borders. They also work well as standalone specimens and grow well in garden pots and containers.

Choose a sheltered spot and plant your Magnolia shrub in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-draining soil. Protect the plant against late frosts, which may damage emerging flower buds in spring. Water regularly until established, then thoroughly but infrequently during dry spells. Lightly prune between mid-summer and early autumn to tidy the shrub and remove any dead or damaged branches.

Please Note: Images are for illustrative purposes only and designed to be a representation of the item(s) being sold. Depending on seasonality, deciduous plants may be supplied in their dormant state and without leaves. Plants may also be pruned back, lower than stated heights, to encourage new growth.

Instructions

Top Tip

Magnolias benefit from protection against strong winds, which can damage their delicate flowers.

How to Water

Magnolias prefer regular watering, especially during dry spells. Ensure the soil is consistently moist but not waterlogged. Deep watering is recommended for strong root development.

How to Plant

Plant Magnolias in well-draining, slightly acidic soil in a sunny or partially shaded spot. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, place the plant, and fill with soil. Water well after planting, and mulch to retain moisture and prevent weeds.
