Product description
This spectacular, small deciduous tree or large shrub is renowned for its breathtaking, goblet-shaped flowers that are a deep, dramatic burgundy-purple, appearing almost black in certain lights. The heavy, textured blooms appear on bare, structural branches before the large, ovate green leaves emerge, creating a striking silhouette.
To protect the magnificent blooms from cold damage, plant this Magnolia in a sheltered location away from strong winds and harsh morning sun. It requires fertile, moist, but well-drained soil that is neutral to slightly acidic, and it resents having its roots disturbed, so choose its permanent home carefully.
Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
For the Magnolia Black Tulip, apply a wide, thick ring of composted mulch around the base to protect the shallow roots and retain moisture, but keep the mulch pulled a few inches away from the actual trunk to prevent bark rot.
How to Water
Water Magnolias deeply and slowly to reach their shallow root systems. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially for young trees; water 1–2 times weekly when the top two inches are dry. Once mature, they are moderately drought-tolerant.
How to Plant
Plant Magnolia Black Tulip with extreme care, ensuring the top of the root flare is slightly visible above the soil line, as planting it too deeply will slowly suffocate it. Because the roots grow incredibly close to the surface and are easily damaged, avoid digging or planting anything else directly underneath its canopy.
