Product description
Amelanchier lamarckii is commonly known as 'Juneberry' and is an extremely popular UK native hedge that displays bright white flowers with dark red fruits in summer and purple-black in autumn. If you don’t get to the fruits quick enough the birds will have a feast on these apple flavoured treats. The colour changes of foliage through the year are amazing from a pink silky colour on to a vibrant green colour in summer then on to warm gold in autumn.
Juneberry is suited to any soil types and can be planted inland or in coastal areas. Amelanchier grows at around 30-40cm per year but can be pruned.

Top Tip
Juneberry hedges are relatively low maintenance and only need to be lightly pruned annually in late winter or early spring, before the fresh new growth emerges.
How to Water
Water well when planting and regularly for the first year, especially during hot weather. Once established, juneberry hedges are drought-tolerant and should only need to be watered during particularly dry spells.
How to Plant
Choose a sunny, sheltered spot and plant juneberry in moist, well-draining soil. Soak the roots while you dig a V-shaped trench, allowing plenty of space for the roots to spread out. You may wish to use a piece of string to ensure the trench is straight. Lightly trim the roots to promote fresh growth and position them in the trench, allowing 45-60cm between plants. It’s worth noting that plants spaced closer together will form a dense hedge quicker. Backfill the trench with soil and compost, firming down gently as you go, and water in well.
