Product description

Hydrangea 'Groundbreaker Blush' represents a breakthrough in hydrangea breeding, offering the very first low-growing, groundcover-style habit for panicle hydrangeas. Unlike traditional upright varieties that grow into large bushes, this compact cultivar stays under 40cm tall while spreading outwards into a dense blanket of green foliage. Its versatile habit makes it suitable for softening border edges, filling open garden beds, suppressing weeds, or serving as a low-maintenance centerpiece in patio containers and balcony pots.

Caring for 'Groundbreaker Blush' is straightforward because it blooms on new season's wood. Pruning should be carried out in late winter or early spring (between February and April) by cutting the stems back to a low framework, which encourages strong new growth and maximal flowering. Plant it in moist, well-drained soil enriched with compost, and keep it watered regularly during dry summer spells. A spring application of balanced, slow-release fertilizer and organic mulch helps retain moisture and ensures vigorous seasonal performance.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Mulch around the base each spring to retain moisture and keep roots cool, leaving space around the stems.

How to Water

Water deeply after planting, then keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells. Avoid waterlogging.

How to Plant

Plant in moist, well-drained, fertile soil in full sun or partial shade. Dig a hole twice the rootball’s width, plant level with the soil, firm gently and water well.
