Product description
More commonly known as Witch Hazel, Hamamelis Feuerzauber are winter flowering plants with ovate leaves and a bushy growing habit. This cultivar is a cross between Japanese witch hazel and the Chinese witch hazel plant.
‘Feuerzauber’ translates as ‘Magic Fire’, and it’s easy to see where this plant got its name. The bare branches are covered in masses of sweetly scented, fiery orange-red flowers all winter long. Yellow-green young leaves emerge in spring, turning mid-green as they mature. In autumn, the fiery theme returns with the foliage providing dramatic autumn colour in shades of red and yellow.
Witch Hazel Magic Fire is an easy plant to grow and look after. It prefers a spot in full sun or partial shade and thrives in slightly acidic, moist but well-draining soil. Water these scented shrubs during particularly dry spells and mulch in spring. Only prune when necessary to remove dead or damaged branches, or to maintain the shrub’s size and shape.
Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
Garden Plant Size Guide
Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Plant Hamamelis in autumn or early spring to allow roots to establish before extreme temperatures. Prune after flowering to shape and remove deadwood.
How to Water
Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once mature, water during extended dry periods, ensuring the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged.
How to Plant
Plant Hamamelis in well-draining, slightly acidic soil in a spot with full sun to partial shade. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball, set the plant at the same depth as in its pot, and backfill gently. Add mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
