Product description
Fuchsia magellanica var. gracilis 'Versicolor' is a hardy, upright shrub valued as much for its colourful foliage as for its elegant blooms. Its slender, arching stems feature grey-green leaves edged in cream and flushed with pink, creating a vibrant display even before the flowers appear. As it matures, it produces an abundance of delicate, pendant flowers with crimson sepals and purple petals that hang gracefully like lantern earrings, attracting bees and other pollinators to the garden.
For best results, plant this shrub in a sheltered spot with partial shade to protect the variegated leaves from scorching. It thrives in fertile, moist, but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Water regularly to keep the roots cool and moist, as dry soil can cause buds to drop. To ensure a fresh flush of vibrant foliage and maximum flowering, prune the stems back hard in early spring just as new growth begins to appear.

Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Leave old stems in place over winter to protect the Fuchsia Versicolors crown from frost. When new green shoots appear at the base, prune the old wood back hard to near ground level. This stimulates vigorous growth, ensuring the most vibrant foliage and flowers for the season ahead.
How to Water
Keep the roots consistently damp throughout the growing season, watering the Fuchsia Versicolor deeply during dry spells. Avoid waterlogging the soil, but ensure it never dries out completely. Applying a thick layer of mulch around the base will help retain moisture and keep the roots cool.
How to Plant
Dig a hole twice the width of the pot and mix in plenty of organic compost. Plant the Fuchsia Versicolor shrub deep, burying the bottom 5cm of the main stems below the surface to protect the crown and encourage strong roots. Choose a sheltered spot in partial shade to prevent the variegated leaves from scorching in direct sun.
