Product description
Epimedium Royal Purple is a slow-moving, semi-evergreen creeping plant that serves as a premier groundcover for the darkest, dampest corners of the garden. It produces rich, deep plum-purple flowers that provide excellent early-season nectar, contrasting brilliantly against new foliage that emerges heavily mottled with reddish-bronze.
Plant it shallowly in cool, protected earth that is entirely shielded from the harsh, bleaching rays of the midday sun, maintaining a reliable, even supply of moisture so the dirt feels like a wrung-out sponge. To see the delicate flowers properly, shear the tattered old foliage to the ground just before the blooms emerge.
Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
Garden Plant Size Guide

Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Plant Epimedium Royal Purple in sweeping drifts under the canopies of larger trees to create a spectacular, low-maintenance groundcover carpet.
How to Water
Provide a steady, reliable supply of moisture to mimic the damp, sheltered conditions of the natural woodland habitat of Epimedium Royal Purple. You must never let the soil dry out into a hardpan crust while the purple flowers are actively opening. Direct your watering carefully at the base to keep the newly emerging, bronze-mottled leaves looking pristine.
How to Plant
Plant Epimedium Royal Purple in a cool, protected spot that completely avoids the harsh glare of midday sun. Dig a wide, shallow trench and backfill it with loose, friable loam to allow the rhizomes to travel easily. Ensure the crown is barely covered with dirt so the delicate new shoots do not have to struggle to reach the light.
