Product description

Calamintha Blue Cloud is a highly aromatic, bushy herbaceous perennial that is universally recognised as one of the most powerful pollinator magnets you can plant. The soft, grey-green leaves are packed with volatile essential oils that release a massive punch of sweet mint when brushed, while the plant smothers itself in a dense, highly textured haze of pale lilac-blue tubular flowers from high summer straight into autumn.

This rugged Mediterranean native demands baking heat and extremely sharp, rocky drainage to survive. You must plant it in poor, chalky, or sandy soil and strictly adhere to a dry-dirt policy, only watering if the foliage physically begins to wilt. To maximize its output, give the bushy mound a light, strategic shear right after its first major flush of blooms to instantly force a vibrant second wave of late-season colour.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

To maximise the sensory impact of Calamintha Blue Cloud, plant it directly alongside a pathway where you will frequently brush past it. Friction releases the incredible minty oils stored within the grey-green leaves. Shear it back by a third after its first flush of flowers to force a second wave of intense colour.

How to Water

Drench the planting site immediately to help Calamintha Blue Cloud transition smoothly into its new home. From that point onward, it demands a strict dry-dirt policy and actively hates constant dampness. You should completely ignore this plant with the watering can unless the foliage physically begins to wilt.

How to Plant

Dig a shallow hole for Calamintha Blue Cloud in the poorest, grittiest soil you possess. Position this herb where it will bake in the sun, as harsh light is required to produce its aromatic oils. Keep the central crown slightly above the soil line to prevent the stems from rotting.
