Product description

Alstroemeria 'Valletta', commonly known as the Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, is a compact perennial that brings vibrant colour to gardens and containers. Its dark green, lance-shaped leaves provide a lush backdrop for clusters of striking flowers, creating a captivating display from June to November. This variety is particularly suitable for patio containers, borders, and makes an excellent addition to cut flower arrangements.

Thriving in fertile, moist but well-drained soils, 'Valletta' prefers a position in full sun or partial shade. While it is hardy, protecting the plant with mulch during severe frosts is advisable to ensure longevity. Regular deadheading of spent flowers will encourage continuous blooming, and the plant's compact size makes it ideal for smaller gardens or container cultivation.

Beyond its ornamental appeal, Alstroemeria 'Valletta' is recognized for attracting pollinators, supporting local biodiversity. Its long-lasting blooms are a favorite among florists and gardeners alike, providing vibrant colour both in the garden and as cut flowers indoors. With minimal maintenance requirements, this perennial offers a prolonged season of interest, enhancing any garden space with its exotic beauty.

Instructions

Top Tip

Slugs and snails are known to devour alstroemerias, so use an eco-friendly barrier or deterrent to protect young plants.

How to Water

Water regularly during dry spells, taking care not to over-water as this can damage the fleshy roots.

How to Plant

Choose a sheltered spot in full sun with free-draining soil and dig a hole around 20cm deep and slightly wider than the root ball. Add some well-rotted organic matter to the hole and leave 40-60cm between plants.
