Product description

Acting as a blazing visual beacon in the landscape, this vibrant variety produces pure, fiery crimson-red single flowers that seem to practically glow in direct sunlight. The radiant, wide-open blooms feature a distinct, pale yellow central eye and pop brilliantly against the plant's own coarse, mid-green basal foliage. It is a highly energetic, fast-growing powerhouse that adds an immediate sense of warmth and vitality to any outdoor space, highly favoured by nectar-loving insects.

To guarantee this plant survives the dormant season without succumbing to root rot, it must be planted in earth that drains flawlessly; heavy, waterlogged clay will suffocate the crown. As the season progresses, it is entirely natural for the very lowest leaves resting on the soil to brown and shrivel; simply strip these dead leaves away by hand to keep the base tidy and prevent decaying matter from inviting pests. Apply a thick, two-inch layer of organic bark mulch directly over the root zone to insulate the underground structure and maintain consistent soil temperatures during volatile weather shifts.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Monitor the large leaves for small holes caused by hungry caterpillars or slugs. Hand-picking these pests off the foliage is the easiest way to keep the Alcea Mars Magic looking pristine. Surrounding the base with crushed eggshells provides a great physical barrier against crawling insects.

How to Water

Keep the ground consistently damp but never waterlogged to avoid suffocating the root system. Check the foliage frequently to ensure your watering method isn't causing dirt to splash onto the lower leaves. Hydrate the Alcea Mars Magic deeply rather than giving it frequent, shallow sprinkles.

How to Plant

Clear away all weeds and competing vegetation from your chosen planting site. Work the soil until it is crumbly and fine to guarantee the roots can penetrate easily. Position the Alcea Mars Magic carefully and water the empty hole first before backfilling the soil.
