CHARACTERISTICS: Beautifully vibrant small indoor plant, flaunting large leathery leaves in a deep green, with yellow veining and tinges of red. Small white flowers might appear in summer when the plant is mature. Originating from Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia, Codiaeum Pictum is easy to look after and keeps its colourful foliage year-round.
SMALL HOUSEPLANT: Ideal indoor plant for small spaces like apartments, window sills, bathrooms, office desks or kitchens. Added bonus of Codiaeum Pictum being an excellent air purifier!
IDEAL GIFT PLANT: No matter the occasion – a birthday, housewarming or holidays – a baby plant will be a perfect gift for your friend or family with a green thumb, or someone aspiring to become a proud plant parent.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE: Codiaeum Pictum will thrive in a bright space, without exposure to strong, direct sunlight. It’ll fare best in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly, keeping the soil lightly moist throughout spring and summer when the plant is growing. Mist regularly to provide humidity and occasionally wipe the leaves with a damp cloth.
Also known as Sun Spot Croton, this unusual plant creates a wonderfully tropical accent in your home or office space.
Croton plants are generally easy to care for. They thrive in a warm, bright spot and can tolerate some direct sunlight (but avoid too much as it can scorch the leaves). The brighter the spot you choose for your new plant, the more vibrant the leaf colour will be. Croton prefers lightly moist soil but doesn’t enjoy being waterlogged so let the soil drain well and let the top 2cm dry out before watering again.
Codiaeum is often referred to as ‘Joseph’s Coat’ because of the array of rich, vibrant colours it comes in. This variety features striking yellow veins, which contrast beautifully with the rich green of the foliage. As the plant matures, flushes of red will begin to appear over the leaves.
Growing your Croton from its baby stage and watching it mature over time, from a tiny leafy stem to a healthy, fully grown plant is a delight to witness.
It’s not unusual to give your plant a name… so don’t hesitate to choose one that you think suits the plant! Try naming your plant with the first name or word that you think of when you look at it - that’s how we ended up with an orchid named Clover and spider plant called Joseph.
