Azaleas belong to the genus Rhododendron, native to Japan. These hardy compact and rounded evergreen shrubs are suitable for container gardening. Azalea Geisha Red plants bloom clusters of reddish pink flowers that profusely grow in May. These shining flowers create a vibrant display of colours that attracts bees and butterflies.
Azaleas are dwarves in size, they will grow to a height of 0.8 - 1.2 metres in a long maturity time. These perennials are ideal for beginners or seasoned gardeners since it is easy to grow and care for them.
They are shade and drought tolerant, prefer shining and resting in shady sheltered spots. Azalea bushes do have certain demands as to where they are planted. Usually they prefer acidic sandy lime-free soil that is humus rich and moist. Adding a feed of ericaceous compost will ensure healthy growth of its foliage.
The deep green leaves of Azalea flowering plants will offer an ornamental value to your cottage garden when its vibrant lipstick-red flowers will contrast with the foliage. Grow them in a border to Magnolias, Pieris or Rhodos for a perfect garden combination.
Its sweetly scented flowers attract butterflies. Their flowers often last for several weeks and will provide year-round colour to your patio. Sep - Oct and Mar - Apr are the best months to plant Azaleas away from cold dry winds.
Azaleas will look amazing near fences or conifers.
