Product Description
Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi is an essential product that helps establish your plants, made with mycorrhizal fungi, a micro-organism with which trees have had a symbiotic relationship for millions of years. Once your plants are in the ground, it will develop a highly-active secondary root system, with the explicit purpose of exponentially increasing the uptake of water and nutrients, everything needed in order to allow your plants to flourish.
SEASONAL AVAILABILITY - Bare Root plants are supplied from late November until Spring the following year.
CHARACTERISTICS - Ligustrum vulgare is known for it's semi-evergreen deep green foliage and white flowers with a powerful scent for wildlife in summer. This plant also produces black berries in winter and is a great feeding source for many wild bird species.
HEIGHT AND SPREAD - Supplied in their dormant state, Ligustrum grows at 1-2ft per year and can reach up to 4m+ at full maturity, but can be pruned to a relatively low form of 1m if required.
PLANTING TIPS - Bare-Root hedging is typically planted in a double staggered row of 5 plants per metre. Evergreen plants are generally planted to less density than deciduous plants, such is the nature of their dense foliage.
Ligustrum vulgare is commonly known as 'Wild Privet' it is an extremely popular semi-evergreen hedge that displays deep green foliage in spring along with white flowers that attract butterflies and bees. Ligustrum will often keep it's leaves unless it is hit by a hard frost and in that case they will drop all foliage. In autumn you get the attractive black berries that are a great source of food for many species of wild birds. This plants bushy habitat makes a great safe nesting place for wild birds .
Wild Privet prefers well-drained chalky soil, however will do fine in any type of soil as long as you avoid very wet conditions. Ligustrum grows at around 1-2 feet per year but can be pruned to a manageable size.
