CHARACTERISTICS: Betula Pendula Silver Birch are deciduous outdoor trees with slender, hanging branches covered with delicate, green leaves. Yellow-green catkins bloom in Spring and in autumn, green leaves turn to shades of rustic yellow before dying away over the winter months.

HEIGHT AND SPREAD: Supplied in a dormant state, Betula Pendula can eventually grow to a height of up to 30 metres when mature, although they can be pruned back to remain as hedging plants.

PLANTING TIPS: Bare-Root hedging is typically planted in a double staggered row of 5 plants per metre. Evergreen plants are generally planted to less density than deciduous plants, such is the nature of their dense foliage.

Betula Pendula Silver Birch are outdoor garden shrubs or medium sized trees which can also be grown as garden hedging. These trees have attractive, white, papery bark and pendulous branches upon which delicate, glossy green leaves grow. In autumn, foliage turns to rustic yellow before dying off over winter and returning again in spring.

In spring, foliage is accompanied by yellow green, drooping catkins, sometimes making way for small, cone-like fruits which are not edible. Although these trees can reach an ultimate height of around 30 metres, they can be pruned to remain smaller when used as hedging, where they will grow in an elegant, rounded habit.

This shrub will tolerate many soil types as long as they are moist and well-drained, and it will grow best in full sun or partial shade. Prune in the dormant season each year and avoid pruning in spring.
