Characteristics: A compact evergreen rosemary shrub with aromatic leaves and a prostrate growing habit on a standard stem. Clusters of pale blue flowers appear in spring, lasting all summer and often into autumn.

Growth and Spread: Ultimate height of up to 50cm and spread of up to 150cm.

Care and Maintenance: Plant in full sun in moist but well-draining soil. If necessary, trim annually to maintain the plant’s size and shape.

Period of Interest: Foliage interest all year round. Flowers from spring to autumn.

Rosemary Prostratus is valued for its highly aromatic dark green foliage that remains in place all year round. Clusters of small flowers start to appear in spring and continue blooming throughout summer, often lasting into autumn. The pale blue flowers are nectar-rich and attract pollinators, including bees and butterflies, to the garden.

Rosemary is a popular culinary herb useful for flavouring casseroles, sausages, soups, stews, and stuffing. It complements lamb and fish well and is an excellent garnish for sauces, salads, and cordials. Rosemary can be harvested as required throughout the year and the leaves can be used either fresh or dried.

Although this low-growing shrub is less vulnerable to wind damage than other plants, it still prefers a sheltered spot in full sun. Plant it in moist but well-draining soil and water thoroughly during dry spells. Rosemary Prostratus is a welcome addition to any herb garden and is suitable for planting in beds and borders as well as pots and containers.
