The Prunus kurilensis ‘Brilliant’ fascinates with its abundant, white flowers at the beginning of spring and with its intense, brilliant red foliage in the autumn. This dwarf cherry or commonly known as the Japanese alpine cherry grows only 1.2 m high and is absolutely hardy. Brilliant is compact and small-sized deciduous tree that is suitable for small gardens and terraces.
The soft flowers of Prunus Brilliant initially appear with pink petals and later turn pure white. It is a spectacle that lasts from March to April. In autumn, this dwarf tree will become the focal point of your garden with its impressive brilliant orange foliage. The flowers are followed by small, about 1 cm large, shiny, black cherries, which are of little interest to humans. However, the abundance flowering captivates bees, bumblebees and other insects for nectar and pollen.
Prunus Brilliant is quite undemanding and loves a warm sunny location. It also tolerates shadier locations, but the overwhelming bloom is only possible in full sunlight. It is best to choose a free location in a moist to fresh, well-drained, loamy soil.
The flowers of this tree have to be sheltered from the wind. It is very hardy and does not require pruning. Any overextended shoots can be lightened to form a dense crown. Keep in mind that this plant only blooms on older wood.
The Brilliant offers its magic of flowers in the smallest of spaces. It is Ideal for terraces and balconies, as loose hedges in smaller gardens and can also be decorated in a container.
