Product description

Rosemary 'Tuscan Blue' is a robust and highly esteemed variety cultivated primarily for the powerful, resinous flavour found in its unusually broad, needle-like leaves. This intense taste, which combines piney notes with a distinct lemony freshness, is released instantly when the foliage is chopped or crushed. It is traditionally used as a premier kitchen herb for authentic Italian cuisine, particularly for seasoning roast lamb, focaccia bread, and olive oils, where its strong aromatic oils stand up perfectly to high heat.

This plant is typically grown as a tall, upright evergreen shrub that forms a stately column, making it an excellent choice for informal hedging or adding vertical structure to the garden. It is generally hardy but requires a sheltered spot away from freezing winds to protect its foliage. For the best results and a profusion of its signature deep blue flowers, plant it in a location with full sun. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and demands poor, free-draining soil, as it will quickly decline if left in heavy, waterlogged ground.

Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot.

Instructions

Top Tip

Rosemary 'Tuscan Blue' is one of the best varieties for shaping. Its fast, upright growth makes it ideal for training into topiary standards (lollipops) or clipping into a neat, aromatic hedge. Trim it after flowering to maintain the shape, but avoid cutting into old wood.

How to Water

Water Rosemary 'Tuscan Blue' regularly during its first season to establish the root system. Once mature, it is incredibly drought-tolerant and thrives on neglect regarding moisture; only water during severe dry spells, as it hates having "wet feet."

How to Plant

Plant Rosemary 'Tuscan Blue' in a hot, sunny position with sharp drainage. If your soil is heavy, it is essential to dig in plenty of grit or plant it in a raised bed. Because it grows taller and faster than many other rosemaries (up to 1.5m), ensure it has enough vertical space to thrive.
