Product description

Rootgrow Acer Food is an essential product specifically formulated to provide the gentle, balanced nutrition required by all varieties of Acers (Japanese Maples). It is made with a carefully selected, low-nitrogen, slow-release blend of nutrients. This is designed to support steady, hardy growth rather than forcing soft, sappy shoots, while providing the essential elements needed to enhance and intensify the vibrant colours of the delicate foliage. This is vital for allowing your Acer to maintain its health, structure, and stunning leaf colour throughout the season.

The application rate for Acers in the ground is one to two handfuls (25-50g) per tree, or two handfuls per square metre for larger specimens. For container plants, the best method is to replace the top 5-10cm of compost each spring, mixing in one to two handfuls of the feed as you do so to keep them in prime condition. This single, gentle feed provides the precise nutrition your Acer needs for a full season, resulting in a healthier plant with stronger, more intensely coloured leaves.

It is essential to feed Acers only once a year with this plant food, in early spring, just as new leaves begin to unfurl. Crucially, you should avoid feeding after mid-summer, as this can encourage soft new growth that is vulnerable to frost. To apply the spring feed, gently sprinkle the granules on the soil surface around the base of the tree, extending out to the edge of its canopy but avoiding the trunk. Lightly work the feed into the surface with a hand fork and then water the area well to activate it.
