Product description

An excellent choice for bringing early-season interest to shady areas, Pulmonaria Sissinghurst White is a hardy perennial also known as Lungwort. Clusters of pure white, funnel-shaped flowers appear in spring, opening from pink buds above the foliage and providing a fresh contrast against the fresh green leaves. The foliage is heavily marked with silvery-white spots, giving the plant plenty of interest beyond the flowering period and helping it stand out in darker areas of the garden. The early flowers are also a useful source of nectar for bees, making this an attractive and wildlife-friendly addition to spring planting.

Lungwort is well suited to shady borders, woodland-style planting, and areas beneath trees and shrubs where many flowering plants can struggle to thrive. It prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil and will establish readily in a suitable position, returning each year as a reliable perennial. Plant it alongside other shade-loving plants to create a natural-looking display, or use it to add seasonal colour and attractive foliage to areas that receive little direct sunlight. Once established, it requires relatively little attention, making it a useful choice for adding long-lasting interest to shaded parts of the garden.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Once the spring flowers have finished, cut the old flower stems and tired foliage right back to the base. Pulmonaria responds by producing a fresh flush of leaves, which can look considerably better through summer than leaving the older foliage in place.

How to Water

Keep Lungwort consistently watered while it establishes, particularly through warm or dry periods. Once settled, water whenever the soil begins to dry, taking care to maintain moisture around the roots without allowing the ground to become waterlogged.

How to Plant

Choose a partially shaded spot where the soil is fertile and holds moisture without becoming waterlogged. Loosen the ground well before planting, settle Pulmonaria at the same depth as it was growing in its pot, then firm the soil around the roots and water thoroughly.
