Product description

Primula denticulata White makes a lovely addition to spring planting, with rounded heads of yellow-centred white flowers held on sturdy stems above fresh green foliage. The flower heads have the same clean, upright shape that gives Drumstick Primrose its name, creating a display that is quite different from the low, spreading form of many other Primulas. It works especially well towards the front of borders, among other spring perennials, in rockeries, or in containers.

Easy to combine with other spring plants, Primula denticulata works particularly well alongside bulbs and other early-flowering perennials, where the upright flowers add another layer to the planting. The foliage forms a neat clump around the base and remains attractive after flowering, while the hardy perennial nature means the plant returns each year and becomes a reliable part of the garden. It prefers full sun or partial shade and fertile soil that holds some moisture, making Drumstick Primrose a simple way to bring colour and structure to spring planting year after year.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Once Drumstick Primrose has finished flowering, leave the foliage in place rather than cutting it back straight away. The leaves continue to build up energy for the following year's growth, so allow them to die back naturally before tidying the plant.

How to Water

Water Drumstick Primrose thoroughly after planting, then check the soil regularly while it establishes and water whenever the surface starts to dry. It prefers consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly when flowering, but avoid keeping the roots in waterlogged soil.

How to Plant

Plant Drumstick Primrose in full sun or partial shade, choosing fertile, moisture-retentive soil with good drainage. Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball, set the plant at the same depth as it was growing in its pot, then backfill, firm the soil gently around the base, and water thoroughly.
