Long, hanging clusters of warm, tangerine-orange flowers give Phygelius Tangerine a distinctive look, with the blooms carried along tall, upright stems above fresh green foliage. Also known as Cape Fuchsia, it has an elegant, slightly exotic character that works particularly well in mixed borders, where the flowers can rise above lower-growing plants. The pendulous blooms add movement to the planting and appear through summer and into early autumn, while also attracting bees and other pollinating insects.
The combination of height and arching flowers makes Cape Fuchsia particularly useful for adding another layer to a summer border without creating a dense block of foliage. It also works well in a large patio container, where the hanging flowers can be enjoyed at close range, and the stems can be cut for a simple vase display.
