Phlomis russeliana, commonly known as Jerusalem Sage, is a distinctive perennial that brings gentle structure and soft colour to the garden throughout summer. Its tiered whorls of pale yellow flowers rise above a base of textured, heart shaped foliage, creating a natural, architectural look that suits cottage gardens, mixed borders, and relaxed planting schemes. The flowers hold their shape beautifully as they age, offering interest long after the blooms have faded.
This dependable perennial is easy to grow and thrives in sunny spots with well drained soil. Once established, Jerusalem Sage copes well with dry conditions and needs very little attention, making it an excellent choice for low maintenance planting. Leave the dried seed heads of Jerusalem Sage standing through winter - they add structure and help protect the crown from cold winds.
How to Water
Water Phlomis well after planting to help the roots settle in. Once established, give it an occasional drink during long dry spells, as it naturally prefers slightly drier conditions.
How to Plant
Choose a sunny spot with well‑drained soil, and set Jerusalem Sage into the ground at the same depth it was growing in its pot. Firm the soil gently around the roots to remove air pockets and help the plant settle securely into place then water in well.
