Product description

'Little Bunny' is an ultra-compact, miniature fountain grass that brings soft texture and movement to small garden spaces. It forms a neat mound of fine, arching green leaves topped with fluffy, creamy-white flower plumes that playfully resemble little bunny tails. These bristly flower heads sway gracefully in the breeze, making this dwarf grass an excellent choice for edging pathways, softening rock gardens, or filling the front of a mixed border.

Plant this grass in full sun to ensure maximum flower production. It requires light, moderately fertile, and highly well-drained soil, as sitting in waterlogged ground can quickly rot the central crown. Water regularly until the root system is fully established, after which the plant becomes reasonably drought-tolerant. Leave the dried foliage intact to protect the plant from frost, cutting it back hard to the ground just before fresh green shoots begin to emerge.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

Pennisetum absolutely hates sitting in cold, wet winter mud; if your ground is heavy, mix a significant amount of sand or gravel into the planting hole to ensure water drains away rapidly during the dormant months.

How to Water

Water Pennisetum deeply once a week during its first season. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant. Water only during extreme dry spells, as it thrives in well-drained soil and dislikes being waterlogged.

How to Plant

Plant this miniature fountain grass in very loose, well-drained earth, ensuring the crown sits slightly elevated above the surrounding soil line to encourage water to run off. Pennisetum are perfect for edging borders or tucking into the front of a rock garden.
