'Nana Allegro' is a fantastic dwarf Oriental Poppy that delivers all the dramatic impact of larger varieties but on a much shorter, more compact frame. It produces enormous, bowl-shaped, brilliant scarlet-red flowers with prominent black blotches at the base of each delicate, papery petal, creating an incredibly striking contrast.
It requires full sun and thrives in almost any garden soil provided it drains freely. After the brilliant red flowers fade and the decorative seed heads mature, the foliage will yellow and die back completely; resist the urge to water the bare patch, as the dormant roots require a dry resting period.

Top Tip
Papaver plants will turn brown and completely die back to the ground by mid-summer, leaving a gaping hole in your design; plant late-emerging spreaders nearby to fill the empty space while the poppy sleeps.
How to Water
Papaver need moderate watering until established. Once mature, they are very drought-tolerant. Water at the base only when the soil is dry to the touch, and avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot in their sensitive taproots.
How to Plant
Choose a location with exceptionally sharp drainage, incorporating handfuls of horticultural grit into the planting hole if your dirt is heavy. Papaver have long, brittle taproots that hate being disturbed, so dig deeply and slide the plant in without breaking the root mass.
