'Harvest Moon' is a magnificent Oriental Poppy that features large, semi-double, crêpe-paper-like blooms in a glowing, warm shade of tangerine or peachy-orange. The intensely coloured, cup-shaped flowers possess dark, velvety centres and are held aloft on bristly, sturdy stems above rosettes of deeply cut, hairy foliage.
Oriental Poppies possess a long, fleshy taproot and must be planted in very well-drained soil, as sitting in wet ground will quickly cause them to rot. They naturally go entirely dormant and disappear underground shortly after flowering; plant them alongside later-blooming perennials to fill the gap left behind by the dying foliage.

Top Tip
Papaver plants will turn brown and completely die back to the ground by mid-summer, leaving a gaping hole in your design; plant late-emerging spreaders nearby to fill the empty space while the poppy sleeps.
How to Water
Papaver need moderate watering until established. Once mature, they are very drought-tolerant. Water at the base only when the soil is dry to the touch, and avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot in their sensitive taproots.
How to Plant
Choose a location with exceptionally sharp drainage, incorporating handfuls of horticultural grit into the planting hole if your dirt is heavy. Papaver have long, brittle taproots that hate being disturbed, so dig deeply and slide the plant in without breaking the root mass.
