Product description

'Karl Rosenfield' is a highly sought-after classic Peony, renowned for its large, fully double, brilliant crimson-red flowers that create an incredibly bold, dramatic statement in the garden. The striking blooms have a slight fragrance and make truly exceptional cut flowers for indoor arrangements.

To ensure vigorous growth, plant this Peony in a sunny position with deep, nutrient-rich soil, ensuring the crown is not buried too deeply to prevent it from refusing to flower. Apply a balanced fertilizer as the shoots emerge, and stake the plant early to support the weight of the massive red flowers.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

The massive, fully double flowers of the Paeonia become incredibly heavy, especially after rain; set sturdy metal hoops or stakes over the plant just as the new red shoots emerge from the dirt, so the foliage grows up and through the support.

How to Water

Water Paeonia deeply at the base to reach their deep roots. Ensure the soil is well-drained and consistently moist but never soggy. Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases like botrytis or powdery mildew.

How to Plant

The depth of the planting hole is the most critical factor for Paeonia; the red "eyes" (buds) on the fleshy roots must be buried exactly one to two inches below the soil surface, no deeper. Dig a wide hole in heavy, nutrient-dense loam and handle the brittle roots with extreme care.
