Product description

This spectacular herbaceous Peony features massive, fully double, bright pink flowers with a lush, ruffled texture and a wonderfully sweet fragrance. The heavy, luxurious blooms are borne on strong, upright stems clad in deeply divided, dark green foliage that often takes on reddish hues later in the season.

Peonies are famously long-lived but deeply resent being moved; plant them shallowly (with the "eyes" no more than two inches below the soil surface) in rich, fertile, well-drained soil. Provide full sun, and use a heavy-duty plant ring to support the massive pink blooms, which can easily snap the stems during heavy rain.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

Instructions

Top Tip

The massive, fully double flowers of the Paeonia become incredibly heavy, especially after rain; set sturdy metal hoops or stakes over the plant just as the new red shoots emerge from the dirt, so the foliage grows up and through the support.

How to Water

Water Paeonia deeply at the base to reach their deep roots. Ensure the soil is well-drained and consistently moist but never soggy. Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases like botrytis or powdery mildew.

How to Plant

The depth of the planting hole is the most critical factor for Paeonia; the red "eyes" (buds) on the fleshy roots must be buried exactly one to two inches below the soil surface, no deeper. Dig a wide hole in heavy, nutrient-dense loam and handle the brittle roots with extreme care.
